Top 5 WoW TCG Mounts of all time

The World of Warcraft Trading Card Game (or WoW TCG as most people refer to it) was basically the physical version of Hearthstone. It ran from 2005 and ended in 2013. Every pack of cards that you bought had a chance of containing a loot card. Loot cards varied in their rarity, and were redeemable for an in game item within World of Warcraft itself. These items included pets, toys and extremely rare mounts.

X-51 Nether-Rocket X-TREME/ X-51 Nether-Rocket

The X-51 Nether-Rocket X-TREME/ X-51 Nether-Rocket are a two for the price of one deal. Redeeming the loot code grants you the X-51 Nether-Rocket X-TREME and the X-51 Nether-Rocket.

The X-51’s can be redeemed from the X-51 Nether-Rocket Card which had a 1/264 chance of being found in Servants of the Betrayer booster packs.

Why are the rockets cool? There really aren’t any easily obtainable alternatives in game. Probably the closest appearance wise is the Big Love Rocket that has a very low drop chance from Apothecary Hummel during the annual ‘Love is in the Air’ event.

X-51 Nether Rocket X-treme WoW TCG Mounts

The X-51 Nether-Rocket X-TREME is going for between 2.5M – 3M gold on my server currently, and is listed on eBay for anywhere within the $250 – $500 USD range. The price seems to fluctuate quite a bit though (as is the case with most TCG mounts).

The Feldrake is arguably not the most unique in terms of it’s appearance, with plenty of other readily available mount in game sharing a very similar model. What is unique about the Feldrake however is that, due to what started out as a ‘bug’, it’s the only dragon/drake mount that can be used as a land mount. Ever wanted to mount up on a dragon in a battleground? Then the Feldrake is the mount for you.

It also has a couple of nice little touches to set it apart from the other drakes in game, such a rune glowing above its head and the green ember trail it leaves behind.

The Feldrake is available via redeeming the Feldrake card, available in the War of the Ancients expansion, found in 1 in 264 booster packs.

While there are currently none on the auction house of my server, I’ve seen a couple on eBay ranging in price from $350 – $500 USD.

Ghastly Charger’s Skull

The Ghastly Charger’s Skull has lost a little of it’s uniqueness in recent years thanks to a couple of alternative spectral horse style mounts becoming available in game, however there are still enough unique elements to set it apart from it’s competition. For example, this mount appears based on the undead class mount whereas the other spectral horse mounts in game appear modelled on the human ‘standard’ horse. This mount also leaves behind a vapor trail, with purple/violet colored smoke coming from its mane and hooves. It’s also a ground and air mount.

Reins of the Spectral Steed, available for 165 Tol Barad Commendations from the Baradin’s Wardens Quartermaster is probably the closest ‘easily’ available in game alternative, however it is unable to fly.

The Ghastly Charger is received upon redeeming the Ghost Charger card from the Betrayal of the Guardian expansion, found in 1 in 264 booster packs.

Compared to a number of TCG mounts, the Ghastly Charger is down the ‘budget’ end of the scale. Currently selling for just over 1M gold on my server, you can often find it listed on eBay for between $250 – $350 USD.

Swift Spectral Tiger/ Spectral Tiger

For many people, the first mount that pops in to their heads when they think of TCG Loot mounts is the Swift Spectral Tiger. The spectral tiger is unique. While there are tiger/sabre mounts and there are spectral mounts, there is only one way you can get a combination of the two, TCG Loot.

The Spectral Tigers are redeemed via the Spectral Tiger card, found in 1 in 484 booster packs of the Fires of Outland expansion.

Swift Spectral Tiger WoW TCG Loot Mount Guide

Arguably the most sought after mount in the game, it’s probably not suprising to learn it’s also one of the most expensive. Currently on my server it’s going for around 3-4M gold, while on eBay there are listings for between $1,200 – $2,000 USD.

Like the X-51 rockets, the Spectral Tigers are a two for one deal. When you redeem the Spectral Tiger card you receive both versions of the mount (the swift and standard versions).

Magic Rooster

Perhaps a controversial choice for number one, the Magic Rooster may not be as iconic as the Swift Spectral Tiger but it’s definitely got character. From it’s idle animation, the crowing, the scratching, right down to the flavor text, the Magic Rooster has it all going on.

“Magic in the hands of a genius can do wonderful, miraculous things. Magic in the hands of an idiot can make a giant rooster.”

The Magic Rooster is redeemed via the El Pollo Grande card that was available as rare card in the Fields of Honor expansion. It reportedly showed up in 1 in every 264 booter packs.

Magic Rooster WoW TCG Loot Mount Guide

As it’s tradeable in game, you’ll occassionally see one in the auction house, but if you do, expect it to cost you a lot of gold. As of writing this there’s currently one up on the Auction House on my server for 2.8M gold. There are currently a couple available on ebay ranging in price from $500-$750 USD.

How to score TCG loot

As WoW TCG ended in 2013 and production of cards stopped, the amount of TCG loot cards that have remained un-redeemed has obviously shrunk, which in turn has increased the rarity of the TCG mounts. That’s not to say that they aren’t still available though, just that, should you want one, expect to either shell out a gold cap on the auction house, or black market auction house, or a decent amount of real life cash on ebay.

Redeeming the Codes on Cards

If you’ve managed to get your hands on an un-redeemed TCG loot card, in order to redeem it, you’ll need to go to the WoW Promotion Page on the official website and enter the 25 digit code found on the card. You’ll then get another code that you need to use in game. To redeem the code in game (and get your TCG item) head on down to Booty Bay and talk to Landro Longshot.

Happy hunting.
